FAQ's
- Question: I am concern about the mixed age group classroom. How will this benefit my child (of any age)?
- Answer: In the real world, children are constantly interacting with other children from different age groups. Our program offers the opportunities for children to reach their developmental goals while socializing with friends of their own age as well as children from different age groups. Our younger children who learn best through imitation have older children around them demonstrating appropriate behaviors. Older children also have the opportunity to practice leadership, taking responsibilities and cooperation while playing around young children. Please keep in mind that our 1:4 teacher/ child ratio offers the luxury of separating different age group in the classroom if necessary without hurting the quality of our program.
- Question: How do teachers in Yikes Tikes! support parents if they have any questions or concerns about their children?
- Answer:We know children will benefit the most when both parents and teachers work hand in hand. Our teachers always welcome questions and concerns about your child and are willing to help you in different ways:
- Quarterly parent/ teacher conferences. Every twelve weeks, teachers schedule a meeting with parents to discuss children’s progress and set new goals, as well as discuss any concerns that parents have. We want parents to know that they can include us in their support system. This is especially reassuring for new parents who have little experience in child rearing.
- Informative newsletters. Every three months parents will receive a newsletter that discusses themes, new adjustments in our program and useful tips and suggestions that cover the most frequent parental concerns.
- Evaluation forms. Our evaluation forms are regularly distributed to parents and filled out by them. We make sure that we constantly monitor parents’ comments and adjust our curriculum accordingly to acknowledge valid concerns.
- Resource books and articles. Teachers regularly share articles that address developmental patterns related to the young child. If parents need more information, there are teachers’ resource binders with information regarding early childhood years.

Theme of the month
Every month a developmentally appropriate theme is chosen to teach children a new concept. Selecting a particular theme for the month offers consistency and repetition which are the key rules for children’s learning. However, focusing on a theme by no means limits the information that children are exposed to throughout the day. For example, while learning about animals, “Old McDonald’s Farm” song is a good start in introducing children to different farm animals. Yet, learning will be expanded as teachers encourage children to think about what alphabet letter the word, “horse,” starts with, or how many animals they can count.
For more information about our theme or how to maximize your child’s learning, please read one of our newsletters.
